A Frenchman in New York is a creation by Paul Lay conceived as a mirror to George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, revealing the artist’s deep attachment to the tradition embodied by the great American composer.

The concert will be complemented by an ensemble version of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Famous for its masterful blend of classical music and jazz, it forms part of an experimental approach that had already begun, among other milestones, with the success of Canadian singer Eva Gauthier’s jazz-classical concert at Aeolian Hall in New York in November 1923.
