Last week, Alexandre Kantorow was in Boston to play at the Symphony Hall with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Anna Rakitina.
It was an event, not only because these concerts were Alexandre Kantorow's debuts in Boston, but also because Tchaikovsky's 2nd Piano Concerto had not been played at the Symphony Hall since 1912.
Read what the press has to say about these concerts !
"With blazing technique and supple musicality, Kantorow was fully equal to the work’s show-stopping first movement.[…] Kantorow's hurtling, rhythmically incisive account of the “con fuoco” finale then sparked a near-instantaneous ovation, which the pianist in turn acknowledged with two encores — arrangements from Gluck's “Orfeo ed Euridice” and Stravinsky's “Firebird.”"
BOSTON GLOBE (Jeremy Eichler), April 8th 2022
"French pianist and 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition winner Alexandre Kantorow as the concerto soloist otherworldly in quality as well: Kantorow sounded phenomenal.[…] this was Kantorow's show, and what a show."
BOSTON MUSIC INTELLIGENCER (Jeffrey Gantz), April 8, 2022
""Making his BSO debut, the twenty-four-year-old French keyboardist tackled the work in its complete, unsimplified original version, gamboling through its thickets with an effortlessness that astonished. "
