Outstanding marimba player, open to the widest range of musical influences, Vassilena Serafimova invites audiences to share an intense evening of boundaryless musical dialogue, in two parts: first with the Quatuor Ardeo, then with pianist Thomas Enhco.
Bringing together the Bulgarian musician and the Quatuor Ardeo, led by four young women, the first part of the concert celebrates the union of string instruments and percussion (marimba, vibraphone) through various works of very different aesthetics, by major composers — Vivaldi, Gershwin, Satie, Debussy, and Cras, whose Quintet is here specially transcribed for this unique ensemble. The second part offers a discovery of Funambules Vol. 2, a creation for which Vassilena Serafimova (marimba) and Thomas Enhco (piano) once again combine their finely attuned sensibilities. Alternating between transcriptions, improvisations, and original compositions, the duo takes classical music into other realms (jazz, Balkan music, pop, etc.) with dazzling brilliance.
